Work through the Setup Guide checklist

How the progress ring in the Calso sidebar works, what every item on the Setup Guide checklist is asking for, and the exact action that ticks each one off.

Updated August 27, 2026

The Setup Guide is the shortest path from an empty workspace to a booking page that actually takes bookings. It watches what you have set up and ticks items off by itself, so the checklist always shows you the next real thing to do rather than a list you have to keep score of.

It lives in one place: a small gold progress ring at the top of the dark sidebar, beside the Calso logo. Clicking it slides out a panel titled Setup Guide with your items grouped into sections. Nothing about it is a form — you follow an item to the screen that satisfies it, do the thing, and the tick appears next time the guide loads.

Where the progress ring lives

  1. Find the ring in the sidebar

Look at the top of the dark sidebar, to the right of the Calso logo. You will see a thin circle with a gold arc filled in proportion to your progress, and a small caption underneath counting your completed items against the total, ending with the word Setup.

  2. Open the checklist

Click the ring. A panel slides in from the right headed Setup Guide, with a gold progress bar across the top and a count beside it reading something like 5 of 13 complete. That count includes every item in every section.

  3. Expand the section you want

The sections are collapsible headings, each showing its own tally on the right. The first section that still has an unfinished item is already open when the panel appears, so the thing you most likely need is in front of you. Click any other heading to open it as well.

  4. Follow an item to the screen that completes it

Every unfinished item carries a one-line description and a link. Required items link out with Go to Settings, optional ones with Take a look, and the test booking item gets its own gold card with a Try it now button. Completed items show a green check with the label struck through.

  5. Close the panel and carry on

Press Escape, click outside the panel, or use the Close setup guide cross in the corner. Progress is recalculated each time you reopen it, so there is nothing to save and nothing to mark off by hand.

What ticks each item off

Each section is a question about whether your practice is ready for a client. You will see five of them, or four if you told Calso you were not taking payments yet. Some items appear only if they match what you told Calso on your first sign-in — see the workspace setup questions.

The two items already ticked on day one

A brand-new workspace opens the guide with two greens already on the board, and neither of them means what it looks like.

Set display name checks that your workspace has a name at all, and it is given one the moment the workspace is created. Set your availability checks that weekly hours exist, and every workspace starts with Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00, already in place. Both ticks are honest about the data and silent about whether the values are yours.

The same applies to your name. Check what clients actually see under Your Name in Settings → General, since that field also sets the name on your booking page. There is more on that block in Fill in the profile clients see.

The items that only need a visit

The items whose labels begin with Explore, plus Choose your colors and Add website & social links, introduce you to a part of Calso rather than ask you to finish something. They tick the moment the page loads and stay ticked from then on. One pairing is worth knowing: a single visit to Settings → Branding & Email ticks Add website & social links and Choose your colors together, because they share a screen. If you want the page actually branded rather than merely visited, follow Brand your booking page while you are there.

Create first event type is similar. Pressing + New Event Type creates a real, live event type straight away, so the item ticks before you have written a title or set a price. Treat the tick as "an event type exists", then see Create your first event type.

Three items with one exact trigger

The last section is the one that catches people out, because each of its items listens for one specific action and ignores every equivalent-looking alternative.

Preview your booking page is ticked by the Preview Booking Page link at the bottom of Settings → Booking Page; opening your public address any other way does not count. Share your booking link is ticked by the copy button beside the Dashboard heading — the one showing your booking address that flips to Copied!. For every other place your link turns up, see Find and share your booking links.

Finishing, hiding, and reopening the guide

When every required item is done, confetti falls across the panel and a banner reads You're live!Clients can book you. Complete the remaining items to get the most out of Calso. Your booking page now works end to end, and only the optional items remain. When the last of those is ticked too, the ring disappears from the sidebar for good; there is no empty checklist left to clear away.

If you would rather not wait, Dismiss guide at the bottom of the panel hides the ring immediately. To bring it back, go to Settings → General and scroll to the very bottom, where a small Reopen setup guide button waits — it shows only while the guide is dismissed and something is still outstanding.

Most workspaces find their first blocking item is the event type, so that is the sensible next stop: Create your first event type.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Setup Guide have no payment section?

The Can People Pay You? section only appears if you answered "Yes, I'll accept payments online" to the workspace setup questions on your first sign-in. If you chose "Not yet", the whole section is left out of your checklist. That answer cannot be changed afterwards, but it does not stop you connecting Stripe from Settings → Payments whenever you are ready.

Why is "Complete a test booking" still unticked after I booked myself?

That item only ticks for a booking made with the exact email address you sign in to Calso with. A test booking made with a second address you own — a personal Gmail, a partner's inbox — leaves the item incomplete even though the booking itself worked perfectly. Book yourself again using your sign-in email and the item ticks.

The progress ring disappeared from my sidebar. Where did it go?

The ring hides itself in two situations: when every item on the checklist is complete, and when you have pressed Dismiss guide at the bottom of the panel. If you dismissed it and still have items outstanding, scroll to the very bottom of Settings → General and press Reopen setup guide to bring it back.

Can I open the Setup Guide on my phone?

The progress ring sits in the left sidebar, which only appears on a full-size screen. On a phone the navigation collapses to a bottom bar and the ring is not shown. Everything on the checklist can still be done from a phone — but to see the checklist itself, open Calso on a laptop or desktop.
