Upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your plan
What each of Calso's four plans actually unlocks, how to move up or down a tier, what a downgrade switches off, and what cancelling really does to your workspace.
Your Calso plan decides how many event types you can run, how many calendars you can connect, and which parts of the product are switched on. Moving between the four plans takes a couple of minutes, and knowing what a move down actually removes — and what it very deliberately does not — is worth reading before you make one.
Open Settings from the sidebar and choose the Billing tab. This is the tab about what you pay Calso. The Payments tab next to it is a different thing entirely — that one is about connecting Stripe so your clients can pay you.
What the four plans unlock
Prices are in US dollars, and the tab says so under the Monthly and Annual toggle. Choosing Annual shows each plan as a lower monthly figure with the yearly total underneath it, so Practice reads as $7/mo with "$79 billed annually" below.
| Starter | Practice | Studio | Platform | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | $9/mo or $79/yr | $19/mo or $179/yr | $49/mo or $449/yr |
| Event types | 3 | 12 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Connected calendars | 1 | 3 | 8 | 8 |
| Intake questions | 5 | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Waivers | 1, whole workspace only | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Seats per group event | 10 | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| SMS reminders per month | None | 200 | 1,000 | Unlimited |
Starter is a complete, free scheduling setup: your booking page, one connected calendar, three event types, client records, and email confirmations.
Practice is where selling starts. It adds package offerings, paid digital products, discount codes, installments, automations, the client portal, custom brand colours, the embeddable booking widget, Smart Scheduling, SMS reminders, and the full analytics and tax reports.
Studio is about the page looking like yours rather than like Calso's: your own logo, hiding the "Powered by Calso" badge, a custom booking domain, a custom email sending domain, add-ons at checkout, and unlimited event types.
Platform adds the deeper booking-page layout controls — the banner hero, how the sidebar behaves, and where your logo sits.
All of this is laid out on the tab under Feature Comparison — click a category heading to expand it and compare all four plans side by side.
Reading your Current Plan card
If you are paying for a plan, the card at the top is headed Current Plan and shows your plan name and price, then Billing: (Monthly or Annual), Renews: with the next charge date, and a View invoices link that jumps down the page. Underneath it sits the card being charged, with Update and Remove beside it. On the free plan the card just names Starter and marks it free, and there is no renewal date, no card on file, and no cancel section.
Upgrading to a higher plan
- Open the Billing tab
Click Settings in the sidebar, then Billing. Scroll past your current plan card to the row of four plan cards.
- Pick monthly or annual
Click Monthly or Annual above the cards. Annual is marked Save up to 24%, and the prices on all four cards change to match your choice before you commit to anything.
- Choose your plan
Find the plan you want and click Upgrade on its card. Your existing plan is labelled Current, and a card Calso recommends carries a Most Popular ribbon.
- Pay at Stripe
Calso hands you to Stripe's secure checkout to enter your card. Finish there and you are returned to the Billing tab with the new plan already active — there is no waiting period and nothing further to confirm.
What a downgrade takes away
Clicking Downgrade on a lower plan card opens a review screen headed Changing from your plan to the new one, and it is worth reading rather than clicking through. It lists Features you will lose, Limits that will change with each old and new number, Resources over the new limit telling you exactly how many event types or waivers you are over by, and Integration impacts — your custom domain no longer resolving, emails reverting to calso.io, your logo disappearing, the "Powered by Calso" badge coming back. A panel at the bottom states Your data is safe. and it means it: nothing is deleted, affected features go read-only, and upgrading restores them.
Session packages with credit tracking is a good example of what read-only means in practice, and it is one of the lines you will see under Features you will lose on a move down to Starter. Your package offerings and every package your clients hold stay in the workspace untouched, and you can carry on adding credits and extending expiry dates on the ones already sold. What stops is selling: a client who reaches the payment step is told the package is not available for purchase, and building, editing, duplicating, or restoring an offering waits until you are back on Practice. Switching an offering off and archiving it still work, so you can tidy the page up on Starter.
Confirm Downgrade does one of two things. If you picked a lower paid plan, you go out to Stripe to start it, and it starts on monthly billing. If you picked Starter, your subscription is simply set to end when the period you have already paid for runs out.
Cancelling your subscription
At the bottom of the tab, the Cancel Plan card offers to switch you to the free plan or end the subscription outright. Clicking it opens Before you go..., which shows What you keep on Starter (free), then What you will lose built from your actual account, then Help us improve (optional) — a short list of reasons such as Too expensive or Just need a temporary pause, plus a box for anything else. The reason is genuinely optional.
Three buttons end the screen. Switch to Starter (free) is the main one. Never mind, keep my plan closes without changing anything. And the small Cancel my subscription entirely underneath ends the subscription too.
Invoices and the card on file
Once you have a subscription, Invoice History lists every past charge with Date, Invoice #, Amount, Status, and a PDF link for your bookkeeping. The twelve most recent show by default, with a link underneath for the rest.
To change which card renews your plan, click Update beside it, enter the new card in Update Payment Method, and click Save. Your plan is untouched. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it for a while before anything changes, so updating the card in that window keeps your plan running.
With your plan settled, the next thing worth doing is making the page look like yours — brand your booking page covers the colours, logo, and badge that Practice and Studio unlock.
Frequently asked questions
If I cancel my Calso plan, do I lose my bookings and client records?
No. Cancelling never deletes anything. Your bookings, client records, session notes, payment history, and booking page all stay exactly as they are — you land on the free Starter plan with everything intact. What changes is what you can do next: features above Starter stop working, and anything over a Starter limit becomes read-only rather than disappearing. Upgrading again restores full access to the same data.
When does a plan change actually take effect?
An upgrade takes effect as soon as your payment goes through at Stripe's checkout — you come straight back to the Billing tab on the new plan. A downgrade to Starter or a cancellation is different: it is scheduled for the end of the period you have already paid for, so you keep your current features until that date, and the confirmation screen tells you the exact day under Access until.
What happens to my automations if I move down to Starter?
Every active automation is switched off, because automations are not part of the Starter plan. They are not deleted — the automations themselves, their triggers, and their messages all stay in your workspace. If you upgrade again later they stay switched off until you turn each one back on yourself, so check that page after any upgrade.
Can I remove the card on file without cancelling my plan?
No. While a paid subscription is running, Calso needs a card to renew it, so the Remove link only explains that you have to switch to the free Starter plan first. If you want to change which card is charged, use Update instead — that replaces the card without touching your plan.
