Sell or give away a digital product

Upload a workbook, recording, or guide to your booking page, price it or hand it out free as a lead magnet, and know exactly what a client gets after they buy.

Updated August 27, 2026

A digital product is a file you put on your booking page — a workbook, an audio recording, a template, a course pack. You can charge for it, which earns you something on the days you are not in sessions, or give it away free, which turns an anonymous visitor into a name and an email address in your client list.

Open Products from the sidebar, under Configure. Creating, pricing, hiding, and removing all happen on that one page. On your public booking page, the same products appear at the bottom in a section headed Resources — you can rename that heading on the Booking Page tab in Settings, covered in arrange your booking page. They list in the order you created them.

What you can upload

Each product is one file. Calso accepts PDF, MP3, MP4, ZIP, JPG and PNG, plus the modern Office formats — .docx, .xlsx and .pptx. Older Word and Excel files saved as .doc or .xls are turned away, so re-save those as .docx or as a PDF before you upload.

How big that file can be depends on your plan:

PlanLargest file
Starter50 MB
Practice100 MB
Studio500 MB
Platform500 MB

Uploading is the workspace owner's job: a team member opening the same form gets an error when the file goes up, so if someone else drafts your workbooks, have them hand you the file to attach.

Create the product

  1. Click New Product

The dark New Product button sits at the top right of the Products page. On an empty workspace the page instead offers Create your first product in the middle of the screen — same form either way.

  2. Give it a title and a description

Title is what a client sees on the card, so write it the way you would name it in an email — "Executive Coaching Workbook" rather than a filename. Description is optional and shows in small print under the title, where two lines of it are visible.

  3. Set the price

Under Price, pick Paid and type an amount, or leave it on Free (lead magnet), which is where a new product starts. You can change this later.

  4. Attach the file

Under File, click the dashed box reading Drag & drop or click to upload and choose your file, or drop it straight on. The box then shows the file name and its size so you can check you picked the right one.

  5. Save it

Click Save Product. It stays greyed out until there is both a title and a file, then reads Uploading... while the file transfers and Saving... as the product is created. Large files take a moment — leave the window open until the form closes.

Free lead magnet or paid download

The two radio buttons under Price do more than set an amount — they decide the whole experience a client gets.

Free (lead magnet) asks for an email address before it hands over the file. If that address does not already belong to someone in your list, Calso creates a client record for them carrying the tag lead_magnet, so everyone a free download brought in is easy to pick out in your Clients list. The tag is the same for every product, so name the client or add your own tag if you want to know which giveaway they came from. This is the reason to publish a free download even if you never intend to sell one.

Paid charges the client at the moment of download, through Stripe, so connect Stripe first. Set your workspace currency before you start creating products too, because a product keeps the currency it was created in.

If you have turned on tax collection, a Tax category dropdown appears between the price and the file. Leave it on Use workspace default unless this file should be taxed differently from your sessions — for a download that is usually Digital products.

What your client receives

A free product opens a small window headed Enter your email to download, with an optional name field. When the client clicks Get Download they get a Download Now button straight away, and the file is emailed to them as well.

A paid product opens on its own checkout page instead, which takes the client through Your Details and then Payment. Once the card clears, the page reads "Your download is ready!" with a Download Now button. The same link is emailed to them.

Download links work for 30 days from the purchase, then show "This download link has expired. Please contact the coach to request a new one." Nothing on the Products page re-sends one, so keep the original file where you can reach it.

Editing, hiding, and deleting

The pencil icon on a product row opens Edit Product, where you can change the title, description, price, and tax category. The file is not among them — editing shows Current file: and the file name, nothing more. To publish a revised version, create a new product with the new file and deactivate the old one.

The three-dot menu beside it holds the rest:

  • Deactivate takes the product off your booking page and dims the row. Nothing is lost, and Activate puts it straight back.
  • Copy link copies your booking page address with the resources section anchored, ready to paste into a newsletter or a bio.
  • Delete asks "This will deactivate the product and remove the file. Continue?" — and it means the file. It erases the stored file permanently and switches off any checkout add-on pointing at it. Deactivate is the reversible option; delete is not.

The small figure beside the price counts downloads, not buyers — it reads downloads on a free product and sales on a paid one, but both tick up every time someone opens their link, so one client downloading three times shows as three.

Once a product exists you can also offer it as a tick-box extra when someone books a session, so a client buys the workbook in the same checkout as their first appointment — see offer add-ons at checkout.

Frequently asked questions

How large can a product file be?

The limit is per file and depends on your plan: 50 MB on Starter, 100 MB on Practice, and 500 MB on Studio and Platform. The hint under the upload box quotes 100 MB to everyone, but the file is measured against your own plan's figure, and anything over it is refused with a message naming the limit that applies to you.

Can I swap the file on a product I already created?

No. The file is attached once, when the product is created — editing a product afterwards shows Current file and no way to replace it. To publish a new version, create a second product with the new file and then deactivate the old one so only the current version shows on your booking page.

Do I need Stripe connected to give away a free download?

No. A product set to Free (lead magnet) works on every plan with no payment setup at all — the client enters their email and gets the file. Stripe is only needed for products you charge for, and charging also needs a Practice plan or higher.

A client says their download link has expired. What do I do?

Download links stop working 30 days after the purchase and then show a message asking the client to contact you for a new one. There is no re-send button. For a free product, point the client back at your booking page — entering their email again issues a fresh 30-day link. For a paid one, email them the file directly.
