Offer add-ons at checkout
Offer a client something extra while they are already paying — another session, a place at a group event, a workbook, or an upgrade — and keep track of the vouchers that come out of it.
A checkout add-on is one extra a client can tick while they are already paying for a session — a voucher for another session with you, a place at a group event, a workbook to download, or a plain upgrade on the session they are booking. It is the easiest money in your practice to earn, because the client has already decided to buy and already has their card out.
Add-ons are set on one session at a time, not workspace-wide. Open Event Types from the sidebar under Configure, click the session you want to attach an extra to, and choose the Add-ons tab. Group events have the same tab: Groups in the sidebar, then the event, then Add-ons. Whatever you add there is offered only on that one session's checkout.
The four kinds of add-on
The Type row in the add-on form offers four choices, and the one you pick decides what the client actually receives.
| Type | What the client gets |
|---|---|
| 1:1 session voucher | A voucher good for one free booking of another paid session of yours |
| Group event voucher | A voucher good for one free place at a paid group event |
| Digital product | A download link by email for a file you have already created under Products |
| Service upgrade | Nothing automatic — a line on the bill for something you deliver yourself |
The two voucher types are the ones that leave a record you have to manage afterwards, which is what the second half of this article covers. Service upgrade is the catch-all: a longer session, a written summary, a rush turnaround. Calso charges for it and tells you it was bought, and the rest is between you and the client.
Create an add-on
- Open the Add-ons tab
Go to Event Types, click the session you want the add-on offered on, and choose the Add-ons tab. For a group event, go to Groups, open the event, and choose its Add-ons tab instead. Then click Add.
- Choose the type
Pick one of 1:1 session voucher, Group event voucher, Digital product or Service upgrade under Type. Switching type clears whatever you had picked before it, so choose this first rather than last.
- Point it at something
For either voucher type, Redeemable for lists your paid sessions or paid group events — a voucher can only be redeemable for something that has a price, so anything free is left out of the list. For a digital product, Digital product lists your active products, and if you have none the field offers a link to create one first.
- Write the offer
Title is what the client reads on the checkout card, so make it an offer rather than a label — "Add a follow-up session" beats the session's own name. Description is one supporting line underneath. Picking a session or a product fills both of these in for you as a starting point, along with the price, and you can overwrite any of them.
- Set a price worth ticking
Price is what the client pays for the add-on, and it is independent of what the referenced session normally costs. It cannot be higher than the full price of the thing it points at — go over and Save Add-on greys out with a note naming the ceiling. Because the field is pre-filled at full price, this is the one number always worth changing: the discount is the reason anyone ticks the box.
- Decide how long the voucher lasts
On the two voucher types, Voucher expires after (days) sets a deadline — 30 gives the client a month to book. Leaving it blank means the voucher never expires, which is generous but leaves you owing a session indefinitely, so put a number in unless you have a reason not to. Then click Save Add-on.
Everything you save is listed on the tab with its price and a line naming what it includes. The pencil icon reopens the form, and the trash icon removes the add-on after a confirmation. Removing one stops it being offered from that moment on; it does not touch anything a client already bought.
What the client sees
At the payment step of your booking page, your add-ons appear in a card headed Enhance Your Session, under the line "Optional add-ons from your coach". Each one is a tick box showing the title, your description, and the price with a plus sign in front of it, so it reads as an addition to the total rather than the total itself. A voucher add-on also carries a small tag reading Session voucher with the expiry you set — "Session voucher · 30 day expiry". A digital product's tag names the file type instead.
Ticking a box updates the amount charged straight away. Nothing is committed until the client pays, and if they untick it the total goes back down.
When add-ons are not offered
Add-ons appear on a booking the client is paying for. They are deliberately skipped when a client books by spending credits from a package they already hold — the tab notes this under its heading — so a package client never sees an upsell on a session they have already paid for. If you want to offer that client something extra, do it inside the package instead, as covered in build a session package clients can buy.
Track vouchers in Promotions
A voucher comes into existence the moment the client's payment succeeds, and from then on it lives in one place: open Promo Codes in the sidebar — the page is headed Promotions — and switch to the Vouchers tab.
Four counters across the top show how many vouchers are Issued, Redeemed, Expired and Revoked. Below them, All statuses narrows the table to one of those and Search by email... finds one client's vouchers. The table lists the Customer, what it is Redeemable For, and a Source column — on this table that means the add-on the client bought, not where the client came from. Expires shows the deadline you set, or Never if you left the field blank. Long lists page in with Load more.
Two actions sit on the right. Revoke cancels a voucher permanently and is only available while the status is still Issued — once a client has redeemed one there is nothing left to take back. Expire overdue sweeps every voucher that is past its date into the Expired status in one go; an overdue voucher is already unusable, so this is housekeeping that makes the table tell you the truth at a glance rather than something you must remember to do.
If you would rather take money off the price than add something to it, the other tab on the same page does exactly that — see create a discount code.
Frequently asked questions
What plan do I need for checkout add-ons?
Studio or higher. On Starter and Practice the Add-ons tab shows an upgrade card instead of the editor, so nothing can be created. If a workspace that already has add-ons drops below Studio, the add-ons stay saved but stop being offered at checkout until the plan is back on Studio.
Why can't I pick the session I want the voucher to be redeemable for?
The picker only lists event types and group events that have a price above zero — a voucher has to be worth something, so it can only point at a paid session. Give the session a price first, then come back to the Add-ons tab and it will be in the list.
What does a client get after buying a voucher add-on?
Once their payment goes through, they get an email headed Your Voucher naming the session it is good for, either a valid-until date or a note that it has no expiration date, and a Book Your Session button that opens that session's booking page. The voucher is tied to the email address that paid, and it is good for one booking.
Do add-ons show up when someone books with package credits?
No. A client spending credits from a package they already own goes straight through without an add-on step, which is why the tab notes that add-ons are not shown for package credit bookings. Add-ons only appear on a booking the client is paying for.
