Connect Stripe so you can take payments
Connect Stripe from Settings → Payments, read the charges and payouts status, pick up an onboarding you left half-finished, and disconnect safely when you need to.
Stripe is the piece that turns your booking page into something that can actually take money. Until it is connected, every price you set has no way to be paid, so this is the one step the rest of this section assumes you have already finished. It takes a few minutes, and Stripe does most of the asking.
You will find it in the sidebar under Settings, on the Payments tab — everything in this article happens on that one screen. It is also what Connect Stripe opens in the Can People Pay You? section of the Setup Guide, and what your dashboard's Calso Revenue (MTD) tile links to until a connection exists.
Calso never holds your money. Card payments go directly into a Stripe account that belongs to you, and Stripe pays out from there to your bank on its own schedule.
What stops working until Stripe is connected
Free is the only price that works without Stripe. An event type priced at zero takes bookings, sends confirmations, and writes to your calendar exactly as it always does. So does a free downloadable product.
Everything with a price attached does not. A paid session, a package a client is buying, and an installment plan all need a completed connection first — and a client who reaches the checkout step with no payment method connected is simply stuck there, with nothing to click.
Connect your Stripe account
- Open the Payments tab
Go to Settings in the sidebar and choose the Payments tab. If you have never connected before, you will see a card headed Connect Stripe to accept payments with a short explanation underneath it.
- Start the connection
Click Connect Stripe Account. Calso creates a Stripe account tied to this workspace and hands you straight over to Stripe — there is no separate sign-up to do first, and nothing to copy and paste between the two.
- Answer Stripe's questions
Stripe asks for what it is legally required to collect: who you are, what your business is, and where payouts should land. Expect your address, your date of birth, a bank account, and often a photo of an ID document. This is Stripe's form, not Calso's, so the exact questions depend on your country.
- Come back and check the status
When Stripe is done it sends you back to the Payments tab. The card should now read Stripe Connected with your Stripe email under it, and a row of small status labels below that. Read those before you assume you are finished — the next section explains what each one means.
Reading your connection status
Once connected, three short labels sit under the Stripe Connected heading, and each switches between "enabled" and "pending":
| Label | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Charges enabled | The one that matters. Clients can pay you. Until it reads enabled, nothing priced can be bought. |
| Payouts enabled | Stripe is releasing money to your bank. Payouts pending is normal on a new account and blocks nothing. |
| Webhooks enabled | Calso is receiving payment updates from Stripe. This is part of Calso's own setup — there is nothing here for you to configure. |
Below the labels, Account ID shows the Stripe account this workspace is linked to, and Default Currency repeats the currency your workspace charges in, which you set under Settings → General. View Stripe Dashboard opens your own Stripe account in a new tab, which is where you go for payouts, bank details, and refunds Stripe has to handle.
Picking up an onboarding you left half-finished
Stripe's form is long enough that people abandon it, and it is easy to hit a question you need to go and find a document for. Nothing is lost — Calso keeps the half-built account, and the button on the Payments tab changes to tell you what is left:
- Continue Stripe Setup means Stripe has your account but not all its answers. Click it to drop back into the form roughly where you left off.
- Resume Verification appears alongside a Stripe needs more information banner, which is Stripe asking for a specific extra document — usually a photo ID or business paperwork.
- Stripe is reviewing your account means you have given Stripe everything and it is checking your documents. This usually takes a day or two and there is nothing for you to do.
- Account verification failed means Stripe could not verify the account at all. Calso cannot resolve this one; the banner links you to Stripe support, who can.
Disconnecting Stripe
Disconnecting lives at the bottom of the Payments tab in a red Danger Zone card. Click Disconnect, and the button is replaced by Yes, Disconnect and Cancel so a stray click cannot do it by accident.
It takes effect the moment you confirm. Clients can no longer pay for anything on your booking page, so treat it as a decision about your live links, not a piece of tidying up. Your Stripe account itself is untouched — Calso only removes its own link to it — and money you have already collected stays where it is.
The Danger Zone only appears once your connection is complete, so if you started an onboarding and want to back out mid-way, there is nothing to disconnect — just leave the Stripe form. The Payments tab will keep offering you Continue Stripe Setup whenever you are ready.
What to set up next
With Charges enabled showing, you can start putting prices on things. Most coaches go straight to pricing a single session, then build a session package once they know what sells. Letting clients spread a package cost over several months is package installments, which needs a Practice plan or higher. And if you have to charge tax, turn it on before your first paid booking rather than after it.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Stripe if all my sessions are free?
No. An event type priced as free takes bookings, sends confirmations, and writes to your calendar whether or not Stripe is connected. You only need Stripe the moment you put a price on something — a paid session, a package, or an installment plan. Free downloadable products also work without it.
Why does my Stripe status say Payouts pending?
That is normal for a new account and it does not stop anything. Stripe often switches charges on first and finishes verifying your identity and bank details over the next day or two before it releases payouts. As long as the status reads Charges enabled, clients can pay you; the money sits in your Stripe balance until payouts open.
Where does the money actually go?
Straight into a Stripe account that belongs to you, not to Calso. Calso creates the connection and sends each payment to your account, and Stripe pays out from there to your bank on its own schedule. Refunds, payout timing, and your bank details are all managed in your Stripe dashboard.
What happens to payments I have already taken if I disconnect Stripe?
Money you have already collected is in your Stripe account and stays there — disconnecting only removes the link between Calso and Stripe. Past bookings and their payment records stay in Calso too. What stops, immediately, is new payments: anything priced can no longer be paid for on your booking page.
